Flag Retirement Locations in Maryland

About Flag Retirement

When an American flag is worn, faded, torn, or otherwise no longer fit for display, it should be retired in a dignified manner — preferably by burning, in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code. The American Legion Department of Maryland coordinates flag collection and retirement ceremonies throughout the state, particularly around Flag Day (June 14).

Many American Legion Posts maintain drop-off boxes or accept flags at their Post homes. Other community organizations across Maryland also collect worn flags for proper retirement. Use the tables below to find a location near you.
