Who We Are

| The American Legion Department of
Maryland was chartered 1919 as a patriotic, mutual-help, war-time veterans organization. A
community-service organization which now numbers nearly 81 thousand members -- men and
women -- in 157 American Legion Posts throughout the state of Maryland. These posts range
in size from 15 members to over 4700 members in a given post. |
| The American Legion Department of
Maryland's headquarters is located in the War Memorial Building in Baltimore, Maryland,
with the Department Service Office located in the Falon Federal Building in Baltimore,
Maryland. Thousands of volunteers serve in leadership and program implementation
capacities in posts in the local communities. A description of these services and programs
is contained elsewhere in this web site. The Department of Maryland has a regular
full-time staff of 8 employees. |
